Sometimes I remind myself to look UP

Apologies for the lack for One Thing posts but behind-the-scenes, I've been immersed in the world of elder care: researching, phoning and emailing, more researching, problem-solving, dealing with crises, having to put my creative work aside.

One thing I've learned: to remember to look up sometimes and focus on gratitude, appreciating the bigger picture.

So here are some things I'm grateful for right now:

  • That I have a sister who cares just as much as I do. That we are able to work together to help support our 95-year-old dad.
  • Shiny pebbles. I try to find one every day (and I write these down in my Shiny Pebbles list, to peruse on days when I need it). Example: During last week's visit, Dad told me how much he appreciated me and my sister.
  • Every moment I have with Dad. I've been asking him more about his memories from when he was growing up. I wish I had started doing this earlier.

In a more literal sense during walks, I also have remind myself to look UP from time to time, especially when I'm so immersed in anxious thoughts that I'm not aware of my surroundings.

So don't forget to look up.
