Adding a bit of crushed red pepper can elevate a bland dish

POLL: What do YOU fellow home chefs do?

Bottle of McCormick's Crushed Red Pepper, about one third full. Bottle sits on a wooden shelf, window nearby that looks out onto trees.

I am far from a gourmet chef. I lack the talent for gustatorial improvisation that many others have.

One trick I've learned that seems to help with I taste something I'm making and it's just meh is to sprinkle in a bit of crushed pepper. Just a bit, mind you! I suggest just a quick shake or two, stirring, then tasting. Works for us, anyway.

Question: What about the rest of you? Any other tips for elevating an otherwise bland dish?
